What to do when the snow doesn't come

GGT fairies live here
Last weekend we held our annual Christmas on Snow fun day for kids. We normally get out on snow for all kinds of fun stuff along with a few silly things like Reindeer Relays. Anyone who's likely to be reading this is well aware of what kind of winter we're having here so far. The resourcefulness of people under these circumstances is really quite amazing proving that we can have fun here no matter what. While we did manage to get out on the Geepers Loop to some extent, the real hit of the day seemed to be the building of Fairy Houses - even the older boys got into gathering the necessary bits and pieces and having a great time with it. The photo is of one of the three wonderful examples that are now out on "Dane's Find", the little trail out behind the yurt. Hopefully more wil appear next summer, the usual time of their construction.

That's an impressive structure you got there. I'm an avid fairy house builder myself actually, entering my 12th year in the sport I am. It gets intense out there, people actually die sometimes. Witnessed a death once. A guy was struck in the temple with an errant pine cone, happens to the best of 'em.
I'm surprised that more people aren't smoking at the ears with this weather. They're making do though, roller skiing, ski walking, whatever it takes. It'll come through.

We require the completion of a comprehensive safety course before one can begin building fairy houses. It's required by law. If you have a certificate from the North Dakota course, we'll accept that as well.
