I can sleep tonight!

GG to BW course update . . .

Ah . . . relief.  I'll be able to sleep tonight; my fears of problem spots on the power line of the Great Glen to Bretton Woods Nordic Adventure course calmed.  Chad, groomer extraordinaire, went out on course today with our snow machine.  He rolled the Leavitt's Link trail through the US Forest Service's Dolly Copp area. He snowmachined over the Pinkham B Road to the location of the second aid station. He went into the private woods trail and then along the power line to the finish area of the 25 km.  All this as part of the preparation effort for next Sunday's event.  He came back in and reported his findings to Howie and I.  It's looking good!!

While the power line has been subject to much wind in the past week following our big snowstorm, Chad saw plenty of snow there to work with, to blade onto the ski route.  No more sweeter words to my ears could be uttered today.  Howie can vouch for all the sleep I lose worrying about potential problems with putting on this major event.  Tonight, we'll sleep well!  The course looks the best it ever has!

I hope all went well and everyone had fun. Watching the LA marathon and it is in the 80's...heading for the beach. Are we really related??? Hey, it all works out, you have snow and I have sun. Between the GGT to BW and the LA marathon, I am inspired to get out and exercise! No excuses.

Comments overheard at the finish line: "NOW DONE -- NOW FUN!" "Adventure!" "Many thanks to the race officials!"

I bet you slept good last night!!! Personally, I thought things went very well. (GGtoBW) People seemed very please with their adventure day. Sue, I was wondering, how did the GGtoBW come about? Whose idea was it? Who came up with the trail?

Sue, The race was great! I really enjoyed myself and thought the course was in great shape. As usual, the volunteers, including Ed and Rosemary, were wonderful :-) Thanks so much to everyone who helped make it all happen!

Yes! We did sleep well last night and will again tonight now that the majority of the cleaning up is done. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers and our staff here at GGT and at BW for putting on I think the best NA yet! Great satisfaction in finally pulling off this very logistically challenging event. To Ed's Buddy: the idea was the brainchild of Ben Wilcox and I many years ago when he was the nordic director at BW. We mused about it for years and finally decided we should just go for it. I don't think either of us could have invisioned just how complicated and difficult the details were going to be. Our most fortuitous moment was when we agreed to take Sue up on her offer to be the race director. And I'll bet she didn't realize just what she was getting into either! So in the space of a little over one year we've gone from the lowest point of event organization - when you have to cancel an event, to the peak - pulling off an great one. What a roller coaster! Hey Elise - we'll be seeing you out there in about 6 weeks!
