A celebration of all the firsts at the Mt. Washington Auto Road! Alton Weagle had a passion for Mt. Washington. To show his passion, he climbed the Mt. Washington Auto Road in a number of unique ways: by car, on foot, walking backwards, pushing a wheelbarrow full of sugar...just to name a few. This day honors his spirit and the spirit of all those from camels to unicycles to pogo sticks to autos who have been the first up the mountain. A footrace to the summit of Mt. Washington! Runners from around the globe come to the Mt. Washington Auto Road to take on the fabled climb. The Auto Road opens at 3:30 am for cars, pickups and motorcycles to drive to the summit of Mt. Washington. Experience the brilliant colors, crisp mountain air and maybe even a view of the sun coming up over the Atlantic Ocean.

The race is contested on the same exact course as the original Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb, making Newton's Revenge the other Toughest Hillclimb in the World. This weekend long event, Friday, Sept 6-Sunday, Sept 8,  is a colonial encampment of reenactors representing various individuals of the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, and Mountain Man periods from 1750 through 1840.

Washington by other than gas powered engines.

North America’s Toughest 10K! Now open to snowshoers! Race begins on the trails at Great Glen Trails and then up to the finish at treeline on the Mt. Washington Auto Road, Ski to the Clouds includes a climb of more than 2,200 vertical feet over the final 6 kilometers. The race is a true freestyle event: skiers can use either skating or classic technique and snowshoers will be in their own category. Limited to 150 competitors.
